Most reliable call-and-response chants fit one of a few templates. Swap in your own words:

• Question / answer: "What do we want?" — "___!" / "When do we want it?" — "Now!"
• Whose X? Our X: "Whose streets?" — "Our streets!" (works with: voice, future, team, city)
• Echo: the crowd repeats the leader’s line exactly — easiest of all, ideal for long or new text
• Fill the blank: "Everywhere we go…" — "…people want to know…" (each line echoed)
• Countdown or build: the same line repeated louder each round, with a clear finish

The crowd’s half must never change. People join a chant with their ears first: after hearing one full round they know their part forever. If the response line changes each round, you’ve written a duet for yourself. Complexity belongs in the call — that’s the leader’s job.

Say the whole chant once, alone, at full volume — the crowd hears the shape. Then: "When I say X, you say Y." Do one practice round at half energy, then go. Two rounds in, it belongs to the crowd.
