New features and improvements in SmartChant, newest first.

July 2026

  • Guides for group leaders. A new Guides section with practical articles on leading group chants, call-and-response technique, wedding unity reading scripts, responsive readings without a projector, tour group coordination, and fitness class cueing — each with a template to start from.
  • Richer link previews. Sharing a SmartChant page or event link on social media and in chat apps now shows a proper preview card with the SmartChant branding, on every page of the site.
  • Event templates. The create page now offers ready-made templates — a worship song set, tour script, class routine, ceremony reading, and rally chant. Pick one and your text, pace, and playback settings are pre-filled, so you can publish a working event in under a minute and then make it your own.
  • Pages for your kind of event. New dedicated pages show how SmartChant works for worship services, tour groups, fitness classes, weddings & ceremonies, and rallies — each with a live demo you can watch right on the page.
  • One tool for every group reading. The homepage, FAQ, and search listings now speak to all the ways people use SmartChant — worship services, choirs, tour groups, fitness classes, weddings and ceremonies, fan sections, and rallies — not just rallies.
  • SmartChant icon in your browser tab. SmartChant pages now show their own icon, so the tab is easy to spot when you're following an event alongside other tabs.
  • Live leader control. Organizers now get a dedicated control view for their event: start, pause, resume, restart, adjust speed, and jump to any line — and every participant's screen follows within about a second.
  • Real-time sync engine. Event playback is now driven over WebSockets. Everyone in the event follows the same authoritative state, late joiners snap to the current position, and devices that drop off resume in the right place when they reconnect. Events without a leader still play in the classic timer mode.
  • Real event lifecycle. Events now move through scheduled → live → ended. Before the start time you see a countdown, during the event the chant plays, and after it ends the text stays readable as a static page.
  • Right-to-left language support. Chants and readings in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and other RTL languages now render with the correct direction and highlight words in the right order.
  • Contact form delivery. Messages sent through the contact form now reliably reach us by email, protected against spam by Cloudflare Turnstile.
  • Security hardening. Stricter session cookies, rate limiting on event creation, contact, and login, and a stored-XSS fix so user-supplied text can never run as code in anyone's browser.

February 2026

  • Autoplay toggle. Choose per event whether playback starts automatically for participants.
  • Past events archive. A paginated archive of past events, with search, so older events stay reachable without cluttering the homepage.
  • Support the project. Added a "Buy me a coffee" button for anyone who wants to help keep SmartChant running.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile. Replaced Google reCAPTCHA with the more privacy-friendly Turnstile for spam protection on event creation.
  • Homepage search. Instantly filter the event list by typing in the search box in the header.
  • Share button with QR code. Every event page can be shared via a QR code or directly to social media, so a crowd can join by pointing their camera at a screen.
  • Live preview when creating an event. The create and edit pages show a looping preview of your chant exactly as participants will see it.
  • Edit links by email. Optionally receive your private edit link by email when creating an event, so you can't lose it.
  • Event archiving. Organizers can archive events (and unarchive them later) using their edit link.
  • FAQ, Terms & Privacy pages. Added documentation and policy pages, linked from the footer.
  • SmartChant launches. Create an event with your text, date, and pace; share one link; and everyone who opens it sees the same highlighted words at the same moment. No accounts needed.
